Kupwara, Oct 10: Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department on Saturday during its ongoing drive booked six more shopkeepers involved in overcharging of essential commodities here in this north-Kashmir’s district.
According to an official, “Assistant Director FCS&CA Kupwara has taken legal actions against people who are indulged in illegal trade practices particularly against Poultry and mutton dealers.”
“A unique method of smart trap is devised by the Assistant Director FCS&CA Kupwara Mudasir Ahmad to deal with the habitual offenders by engaging his own enforcement team”, the official said.
Appreciating the role of checking team for organizing (such) successful traps, the official maintained that “We are left with no other option other than to lodge FIRs against people who don’t follow the rate lists.”
Despite several warnings, the shopkeepers, as per the official, have not refrained from illegal trade practices adding “People are requested to come forward if anybody is overcharging or doesn’t have a rate list or is selling expired products, he said.”
“As now the department has decided to lodge FIRs against those shopkeepers who are indulged in illegal trade practices and nobody shall be spared now as some shopkeepers have become habitual and deserve stern punishment under law,” the official remarked.
Pertinent to mention here that the department concerned had last week booked several mutton and poultry dealers for selling the commodities on exorbitant rates. (GNS)
